Alkaline Water
( Drinkable )
Alkaline water has a pH above 7 (usually pH 8 to 9.5). It contains alkaline minerals (like calcium, potassium, magnesium) and negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), which some claim can act as antioxidants.
Claimed Benefits:
-
Neutralizes acidity in the body
-
May help with acid reflux, indigestion, and hydration
-
Believed to reduce oxidative stress (via negative ORP – a property also known as Anti-oxidant Property )
-
Used as drinking water for wellness
Scientific View:
-
Body regulates pH tightly (around 7.4), so drinking alkaline water doesn’t drastically change blood pH.
-
Might temporarily affect urine pH, not blood
-
Some studies suggest minor benefit in acid reflux (GERD)
Acidic Water
( External Use Only )
Acidic water has a pH below 7 (often between pH 2.5–6), especially when produced by a water ionizer.
Uses :
-
Disinfectant: Kills bacteria, viruses (especially strong acidic water with pH ~2.4 )
-
Skin care: Used for acne, fungal infections, scalp conditions ( 5-6 pH )
-
Cleaning surfaces: Natural alternative to chemical sanitizers
Caution:
-
Not for drinking: Acidic water can harm teeth, digestive tract
-
Can cause electrolyte imbalance if consumed regularly
